Off to Canada

IMG_0732.jpgIMG_0736.jpgIMG_0742.jpg IMG_0743.jpg Thursday Dick and I played golf at Eagle Mountain, while Annette and Sharron did some recreational shopping at the outlets. Eagle Mountain is a 9 hole course with elevated tees and lots of places to loose balls. And we managed to find all those places. The fairway is the safest place in the world, when we hit the links. The resort has a nice restaurant and lounge and we found the bar for a cold one after all that exercise. Almost forgot, on the 9th hole which parallels the road to the left. Dick chased a Mercedes down the road with the best drive of the day. It was on the road but what the heck, it was playable and there was no damage to the car. It had Florida plates. The ladies finished shopping and we all met at Dick and Sharron’s for happy hour. We had dinner, I use the word dinner now, because Val doesn’t like the word supper, at the Stonehurst Manor. It’s a quaint New England Inn with a library and fireplace room, converted to a lounge social area, where you can sit with a martini, while you wait for your table. Thursday night is two for the price of one, anything on the menu. You see a pattern here. They also have great wood fired Pizza. If your ever in the area it’s a great place to stay. The sunsets are great too.
Today we spent the morning packing and readjusting our trip plans, to include a stop in Lake Placid NY. We met Dick and Sharron for one more lunch at Horse Feathers and said our good by’s . It’s always sad leaving one place but we are heading to Michigan to see Norm and Sherri. Can’t wait to see them, and spend some time in the UP.
We left North Conway Saturday morning, heading to Burlington VT. We took the ferry from Burlington to Prot Kent NY and then on to Lake Placid. Do you know how many Yankee fans there are in New York? We were on the back roads for the whole trip, through the rolling hills of VT and NY. All the wild flowers, the farm land and some of the trees are starting to change color. We arrived in Lake Placid around 2PM and headed out to check out the town. We spent 15 minutes trying to get a ticket out of the parking machine and then forgot to take the ticket and put it on the windshield. Luck was with us, the ticket was still there, when the light finally came on. We walked around town and settled in at the Great Adirondack Brewing Company. They have great beer and the steaks were outstanding. We are back at the motel tonight and planning our route to Canada. Have a good one and see you all soon.

George and Kris, Dick and Sharron

IMG_0730.jpgIMG_0729.jpg IMG_0727.jpg IMG_0726.jpg Rain again on Tuesday. We left North Conway and headed to Naples Maine to hook up with Kris and George for lunch. Nice brew house restaurant with some great homemade beers and good food. We sat and talked for several hours about our friends, both past and present. It was nice seeing the two of them and we promised to look them up when they are in Tampa this December. We met Dick and Sharron at Horse Feathers for dinner. Tuesday two dine for $22.95. Prime Rib and New York strip were in our sights. Took a walk around town after dinner and had a night cap at the Eastern Slope Inn.
Today the sun is shining and not a cloud in the sky. So, it was off to the links. Sharron had a coupon at Hales Estates, another two for one. We did nine holes, but it felt like 18. We did get our money’s worth. Nice course with views of Cathedral Ledge. You can hear the climbers talking to each other on the ledge as they climb. We had nice lunch on the rooftop of McGraths and we will see them tonight at our condo for dinner. Miss you all and see you soon.

Heading North

IMG_0723.jpgIMG_0724.jpg IMG_0725.jpg We set off Sunday morning for North Conway NH, after saying good bye to family and friends. We arrived around 2 and the condo wasn’t ready. Decisions, do we buy groceries or go to Horse Feathers. Horse Feathers won out and we had a great lunch with a few wines to smooth the tension from the long drive. We did manage to do some shopping after checking in and we will probably lay low tonight. Not sure what tomorrow will bring. Our friends Dick and Sharron didn’t make it. Something about Sharron turning 60 and a few martini’s made for a one day delay.
Monday morning Rain, rain go away! The condo is great, two bedrooms up and living down. We would definitely come back again. It started raining last night and still raining this morning. Looks like rain tomorrow and blue skies on Wed. and Thursday. We hit the Christmas Tree Shop this morning and then back home for lunch. Dick and Sharron are on the way and we will hook up with them tonight. Annette made contact with George and Kris and the plan is to meet them half way in Naples. Not that Naples, this one is in Maine.

Hooking up with Friends

Hooking up with Friends

IMG_0721.jpgIt was a late night again last night and we slept in until 9:30 this morning. How are we ever going to wake up and play tennis at 8 AM? We did some packing this morning and then went to the beach with the grand kids. I don’t remember the water being that cold when we lived here. We had lunch and Annette finally had some clam chowda. Yes, that’s the way it’s spelled in New England. It tasted great and only begs for more. We might do some pizza tonight at home, with Craig, Val and the girls. The Falmouth road race is tomorrow so the town is packed with runners, looking to load up on carbs. Hard to believe that race started with two bartenders making a bet on running from Captain Kids in Woods Hole to the Brothers Four in Falmouth Heights. Now it’s thousands of runners and people come from all over the world to compete. It’s a fun run with lots of nice scenery along the way. Oh well, maybe next year. Off to NH tomorrow morning to hook up with some friend and I do believe there may be a martini or two in the mix. Miss everyone and see you all soon.

Last few days

Flower garden

Flower garden

IMG_0715.jpg IMG_0713.jpg The last few days have been a little laid back. Spending time with the grand kids and eating late night dinners. Annette and I went back to New Bedford for some Portuguese food at Antonio’s. Another one of those places that have been around forever. The food was great, we took some home and the bill was sixteen dollars. Can’t beat that! We picked up fish on the way home and Craig made a great meal that night. The pool deck is down and they do a process called stamping. When it’s all done it looks like pavers but it’s just poured concrete. It is an interesting process to watch. Craig took me to lunch today at the Chart Room. I finally had my Lobsta sandwich. Yes, that’s how you pronounce in New England. Annette went with Diane to lunch and hasn’t returned, so I’m not sure where they ended up going. It’s off to Falmouth with Scott, Cilla and the girls to Liam Maguire’s for dinner tonight.
